Highlighted Poems: The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur

“Poetry is what happens when your mind stops working, and for a moment, all you do is feel.”

For my first blog post for the month of November 2017, I’m going to share with you those poems that I’ve highlighted and saved while I was reading Ms. Rupi Kaur’s latest collection of poems.

In which by the way these poems have been a very inspiring and mind-boggling one to read. And it’s like getting into a glimpse into the poet’s vulnerability, and because of that, she was able to flow such thoughts in a writing that had resulted into creating such poems that a lot of modern women can truly related themselves into.

Furthermore, it was very thoughtful of her, to dedicate it to her dear mother – the woman who was braved enough to leave behind her family and country in order to pursue a better life with her husband and children to a place that is culturally different than what she was used to.

In addition to that, ever since Rupi Kaur had been a child, she had always looked up to her mother as a source of strength and inspiration in becoming the kind of person that she wanted to be. Someone who is independent and knows her worth as a woman.

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover (Book Review)

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

The whole intense love story of Miles and Tate just blew me away.
Cause from the first moment Ms.Colleen Hoover had made a post about her upcoming novel in all of her social media accounts, I just knew that I’m going to love this book, and according to her, of all the male characters that she has ever written, Miles Archer is the only one that made her so emotional that it truly made her cry while writing the novel.

However, it wasn’t actually in my plan to read it right away after it was published. But a few weeks after it was released, I’ve been seeing tons of top reviews about the book in Goodreads and in Facebook, stating that the story is just simply amazing. So it was a major influence for me to buy a copy. And as expected, it didn’t disappoint me at all. For it was so addictive to read.

As for the story, it’s definitely your typical kind of love story. There’s this guy who is so emotionally shattered and damaged; who is so afraid of love because of his past. And then there’s this girl who could wake up him from his nightmare, and show him the beauty of falling in love all over again. But what I like about the story of Miles and Tate was their intense and passionate emotions (which were described in such detail in the novel).

So how would I describe it?

I would say that Colleen Hoover had truly given each character the source of their emotions, so that as a reader, we can truly understand as to why they seem to be that way. Like Tate Collins, she seems to be an extraordinary type of person- smart, beautiful, and kind. But when it comes to love, she just tends to feel that like she’s still looking for the biggest spark and momentous moment. Little did she know that on her first day into living temporarily in her brother’s apartment, her life will never be the same. As for Miles Archer, he’s someone who has a haunting past; a young pilot who’s been living a meaningless life for the past six years, and being entirely and only committed to his work like there’s no tomorrow; it’s like living a life without any substance at all. Then everything started to change when he’d finally met Tate. For she was the shining beacon of his life who never gave up on him, even though she already knows that in the long run it might either shatter her, or give her the thing that she truly desire.

Moreover, Ms. Colleen Hoover did a marvelous job in writing such a passionate love story, because she made a typical story into something that is so unforgettable to all of its readers. And the song that was composed for this book is truly amazing. For it describes what Miles truly feels for Tate; a beautiful story for all the romantics out there.

That’s it for now, and till my next book review.

Thank you so much for reading. 🙂

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover (Book Review)

urlWhy do I like this book so much aside from all those beautiful songs that were mentioned in the novel? Its because the words were so captivating, that I’m totally hooked, and I just can’t put it down! Reading every word of it just melts my heart away.

I may have read tons of stories, and most if it are under the romance genre. And sometimes love stories tends to make us believe in the perfect romance, fairy tales, and the happily ever after. But this novel is definitely not that kind of romance. I can’t say that its a hateful kind of romance, but I think that the way to describe it would be a confusing kind of romance.

The story was just kinda intense. You know that feeling that wrenches your heart out because its so painful? Ridge and Sydney are so perfect for one another; its just that their lives aren’t perfect for each other! So Frustrating! It may seemed kinda funny, but honestly, I hate the story and at the same time I love it. Colleen Hoover is definitely a one heck of a writer. I don’t know how she did it, but she was able to captivate each reader with all those addictive and beautiful words that you just can’t stop reading it. And you want to do it as fast as you can! Also, ever since I’ve reached halfway into the story, I’ve been wanting to put it down for its so full of dilemma, but its already too late for I was already hooked!

So here’s the thing. Which kind of love would you like to experience? The REALISTIC kind of love or the IDEAL one?

The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay (Book Review)

e44d3f21921bfd5d6c6cddac797e0f09The Sea of Tranquility has been one of those novels that I’ve always heard of, and being recommended to me, but never got the chance to read it. Since last year, I’ve been reading these positive reviews on Goodreads, but I still haven’t got that appetite for it. Then suddenly a few months ago, I was just surfing online and that’s when I saw this novel. So I read the reviews again, the ratings were all kinda impressive. I’ve finally asked a friend of mine who’ve already read the book. She said that it’s surely a must read for it’s really a wonderful story. In reading the first few chapters; it all seems so mysterious. Tons of questions just keeps on running into my head, and that’s when it has gotten me hooked. I also knew by the time that I’ve started reading this; it is definitely going to be one of my favorites. And I was right!

I must say, this novel is so not the Young Adult kind of novel that one would usually read. There’s just something about it that makes the whole story so romantic, and at the same time so mysterious. I guess it’s the level of maturity that the reader would tend to feel while reading this book. Yes, it is a love story but it mostly focuses on the concept of the real meaning of acceptance and healing.

As for the story, I really like the author’s style of writing both point-of-views of the two main characters Nastya Kashnikov and Josh Bennet. For it was able to make me understand the reasons as to why they seemed so damaged. It also points out all the real feelings that they really wanted to express, but are so afraid to reveal to those people around them. Both of them are the kind of people who are just living a life but doesn’t seem like living at all. Josh Bennet may seem your typical teenage boy, but a lot of things have happened to him in the past that made him seem so mature and older than most boys of his age. He just lost it; believing that being near him is like being cursed. As for Nastya Kashnikov, she used to be someone who was so full of life; living a life full of sunshine, love from her family and enjoying her passion which was playing the piano. Until all of it was taken away from her. What happened to her has caused her to build a whole new life, but for her it’s all a lie. It’s like living in a box and with the past always trying haunt her. And that’s when fate steps in. For finding each other is what made them save themselves from their miserable lives.

It’s a love story that doesn’t seem so cheesy for all the readers out there. And that’s what made me enjoyed my time in reading it. I’ve realized that one should appreciate and be grateful for second chances. Not all of us in this world are being given the chances to do something right into our lives. One should also never forget that no matter what happens, the love and support from our friends and family will always be there no matter what. Plus, to love and accept who we really are. I’m writing my review for this book for the reason that I wanted to share it to those who are still planning to read this wonderful novel; the beauty and wonder in reading such a unique kind of love story is simply amazing. It may not be as hugely popular as those other young adult novels. But I just hope that they would be able to feel and realize while reading it, that it’s a story that will purely touch them.

Landline by Rainbow Rowell (Book Review)

5e039b15ef40e6b12c185e983aaa471fWell I must say this book has turned out to be a bit of a surprise to me after reading it. Not because of the story itself. It’s just that from the very beginning. I knew that this novel is definitely not going to be my typical cup of tea. But the surprising part is that I’ve finished reading this in just a short period of time.

924163_306541359555670_1911660338_nDon’t get me wrong, it is a nice story, but it’s definitely not one of Rainbow Rowell’s best works. It’s just that as a reader, I didn’t get to feel that connection that I was really looking for into the story. Is it because that I’ve never been in a relationship or I don’t have any idea about this so called MARRIAGE LIFE? I don’t know. So that is why I’m giving it 2.5 ratings in my review on Goodreads.

Landline is a story about Georgie McCool, a screenwriter in a TV Sitcom. She may seem to be on top of the world with a very nice job. But in her personal life, she is on the verge of losing her 15 years of marriage to her husband Neal. A marriage that has been in trouble for a long time. So when fate gave her the chance fixed things using her old telephone. She had used that opportunity in order to find that one missing piece in her marriage by going through her “time warp” phone conversations with her husband, and also to save the love the she knows that is still there between her and Neal.

752de16cc347bc2d9eade2e7fd1bbd3fReading this book was a very enlightening one. But I just can’t help myself from being irritated to Georgie. I know that it takes to two to build up a marriage, and it takes to two crumble it down. But the thing is, how can a wife prioritize her work over her family? That’s insane! Especially on a very special holiday, it’s no wonder that Neal is losing his patience towards her. So it’s a good thing that during those times that she was away from her family. It gave her the time to reflect from all of her mistakes, and to do things right.

I may not have found this book very enticing for my taste. But at least I’ve learned something while reading this book. And that is when you’ve found the one. It doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s all the happily ever after that we are looking for. It doesn’t end there; it is actually the beginning of something new into the couple’s lives. There may be tough times, but what’s really important is the strength to hold into; holding into the love and companionship that they have for one another. And when they have it, then it’s enough to fight it and give things a second chance; A chance to really make it through. Not because of their children, but for the love that is worth fighting for.

A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall (Book Review)

20801166Goodreads Ratings: 4 out 5 Stars

A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall is such a cute and adorable story! It’s actually about these two college students named Lea and Gabe. From the first moment these two adorable students have met in their Creative Writing Class, they were totally meant for one another. Both of them are so shy, and have no idea that they have a mutual crush. And the problem is that they don’t know what to do about these weird feelings! Even those people around them knew that they are totally perfect for each other! For Lea and Gabe are the perfect soul mates. Plus, even the so called Universe is doing everything to make sure, that these two sweet people would totally end up together! And that’s what makes this story so fun to read.

It was actually last August while I was browsing Goodreads, that I’ve first noticed this book. The summary is intriguing, and its reviews seemed kinda okay. So I’ve decided to get my own eBook copy.

10716236_10201919001775716_1808382621_nBy the time that I’ve started reading this book, that’s when I knew that there are actually 14 POV’s, and none of these two main characters Lea and Gabe were included! It’s really refreshing for me, for it’s actually my first time to read a book that has tons of POV’s! This style of writing is kinda nice because it gives us readers a whole new perspective in each supporting characters in the story, to who they are, and to really understand their actual role in the love story of Lea and Gabe. But the downside to it would be being kinda confused while reading it, for every time I jumped into one character/POV to another. It’s kinda hard to focus one’s thought into the story. For example, I was reading the POV of Sam (Gabe’s Older Brother), and then suddenly, here comes the POV of Casey (Gabe’s Friend). So in some ways, I tend to be a little bit lost, and I try to remind myself that the POV that I’m now reading is now different from the ones that I’ve read before. If it weren’t for those little descriptions to who they are in the two main characters life, I would have been totally lost! And of all the different POV’s that I’ve encountered, I think the Starbucks Barista and the Creative Writing Teacher are definitely my favorite!

Reading this book in just one day has definitely put so many smiles on my face, especially yesterday when I was reading it at a coffee shop. I can totally imagine those people sitting near my table, wondering about this girl sitting alone, and so hooked into what she’s reading. For I just tend to smile every time I came across a very cute scene in the story.

For those who are into a sweet young adult romance, but something that is not too cliché, then this book is definitely for you!
